This really is a ski resort that offers the best of everything. The skiing is extensive, with the Domaine Evasion Montblanc liftpass covering Megève (Mont d’Arbois, Jaillet, Rochebrune and Cote 2000) and neighbouring Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, Combloux, La Giettaz, Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce and Les Contamines-Montjoie.
The area totals 445 kilometres with terrain for skiers all levels including 34 black runs, 82 reds, 65 blues and 38 greens. Ski school classes are geared to skiing as much of the area as possible (according to ski group level). It’s a great resort, easily accessible and family friendly.
Megève has a firm place in the ski history books, having first come to prominence in the 1910s when it was developed by the Rothschild family. A European favourite by the 1950s, today it is one of France’s best loved ski resorts and a real hidden gem. In recent years a huge amount of investment has gone into upgrading major ski lifts and providing extensive snow making to ensure that conditions remain consistent.
Don’t fret if you want traditional alpine charm - the ski slopes and mountain restaurants simply ooze character. The resort is not frequented by the major tour operators and is still amazingly quiet for many weeks of the season.
Away from the ski slopes, there is plenty to see and do. The town provides a mix of old and new combining historic architecture and cobbled streets with designer boutiques, cafés, bars and restaurants - and the jazz club is a must visit.
The town hosts a whole range of spectacular events amongst them World Cup ski and skier cross races, the Polo Masters and international ice hockey matches. The nearby Palais des Sports leisure centre has a swimming pool/sauna, gymnasium, ice rink, indoor tennis court, sports hall, climbing wall and curling rink.

In 1921, Baronne Noémie de Rothschild opened an important hotel which boosted the resort's development. By the 1950s Megève was one of the most popular ski resorts in Europe and attracted many wealthy individuals and celebrities. Nowadays it is still visited largely by affluent people as is made obvious by the real estate prices.
